June Employee Spotlight: David Bernhardt

Published by Andrea Cannistraci on 01 Jun 2018

What’s your role at SCPA? How long have you been with the company?

I am a Senior Accountant and have been with Summit CPA Group for 1 year and almost 8 months.

If you could live to see one future event, what would it be?

Colonization of another planet. I have always had a fascination with space and the unknown. It would be neat to visit another planet where mankind is able to sustainably live.

What’s the one thing you’ve waited in line the longest for?

Probably the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Disney World. My daughter really wanted to go on it and I kept telling her we would but every time we passed by, the wait was exorbitant. We finally went for it and waited a few hours. It was worth it in the end to see the smile on her face.

If you could start your own dream business, what would it be?

Probably a summer camp. I love the outdoors and everything involved at a good summer camp. I have been involved with a non-profit camp for diabetic children for 20 years and they are only open one month each year. I have always dreamed about running a full summer long camp as well as the campgrounds itself.

What do you like on your pizza?

Pepperoni and Green Peppers

What is your favorite article of clothing?

I love wearing a baseball cap. And there is nothing much better than a nice warm baggy hoodie when it’s chilly outside.

Have you (or would you) ever skydive?

I have not been skydiving. I almost took my wife when I was about to propose to her and I planned to do so when we landed, but I decided I would do something different. I would try it though if the opportunity presented itself.

What piece of career advice would you offer a new college grad?

You don’t know everything. You are not the best. It takes time and being humble to learn from your experiences and realize no matter how good you are at something, there is always someone out there who is better (or will be), and there is always room for improvement.

What excites you so much that it keeps you awake the night before?

Vacations. Usually it is due to my procrastination with packing. I love the adventure, relaxation, and fun of vacations and I usually can’t wait to get started!

If you could splurge on one must-have item, what would it be?

A nice piece of land away from the bustle of the city, open field, woods, a small lake, and wildlife galore!
