July Employee Spotlight: Kim Moore

Published by Andrea Cannistraci on 01 Jul 2019

As a distributed company, not only do we serve our clients remotely but our team members work remotely as well. We understand the accounting, bookkeeping, cash flow management, and tax nuances of running a distributed company. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide the highest quality Virtual CFO services and 401(k) Audits while working remotely with (and for) our customers, and we couldn't do any of it without our amazing team.

Every month we spotlight one of our employees so you can get to know us better.

This month we bring you: Kim Moore

1. What’s your role at SCPA? How long have you been with SCPA?

I’m the Audit Director in charge of 401K Plan audits. I’m also in charge of quality control. I’ve been at Summit for 5.5 years.

2. If you could climb a tree in the jungle, zip-line across the sea, or play with the elephants—which adventure would you chose?
I’d play with elephants. I love elephants—they are the coolest animal. My dream job would be working in Africa with elephants.

3. What is your favorite destination to visit and why?
I worked overseas for a few years, based in England. I was able to travel around Europe. I love historical places like Rome and Venice.

4. Who is your favorite superhero? Why?
I have two. I like Wonder Woman, simply because she’s a female superhero. And I like Groot. He’s a tree that can think. All he says is, “I am Groot.”

5. What is your passion in life? Why?
To leave the world in a better state. I enjoy working to change things for the better. I’m involved in activism—I support a lot of animal groups. Not just financially, I actively work with them. I’m also a proponent of educational initiatives, and historical preservation.

6. Do you have a pet?
I love animals so you would think! However, I technically do not. The neighborhood cat visits a lot, but we share her with the neighborhood. Her name is Roxy.

7. What makes you laugh the most?
Interacting with other people. I’m not a big comedy movie fan. I do enjoy late night comedy shows like Saturday Night Live.

8. What is the favorite thing about your career?
I’ve done audit about 30+ years—it’s the variety. I never performed the same audit twice. I did tax auditing previously, so I was at different clients every week. I truly enjoy working with different people, in different industries. Auditing is like a puzzle and I love figuring stuff out. I get bored easily.

9. If you could share a meal with any 3 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? Why?
a. Abraham Lincoln–he was a fascinating historical figure
b. George Washington—he was a fascinating historical figure
c. Sidney Crosby, the Captain of the Pittsburgh Pens (my favorite hockey team)

10. You know the game two lies and one truth. Forget the lies, tell us about one truth that no one on our team may know.
I participated in a one-week summer program archeological dig in high school in Indiana. We found a burial site—an American Indian site, but also a garbage pit. The professor in charge of the dig was much more interested in the garbage pit. This pit was found on my “square,” so I was the star. One learns more studying garbage than bones, apparently!
